The KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) is a university of the state Baden-Württemberg. It emerged in October 2009 from the fusion of the Technological University Karlsruhe (TH Karlsruhe) and the Research Facility Karlsruhe (Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe). At the winter term 2016/2017 there were 25.892 enrolled students, of those 4.643 mechanical engineers,1.310 chemical engineers and 389 bioengineers. The university has 4 campuses: south, north, east and west (quite easy, right?). The KIT also belongs to the TU9, which is an association of the nine (self-declared) leading technological universities in Germany.
Almost all the classes take place on the southern campus. It is situated right next to the downtown-area and the park/garden of the castle. At the beginning you will only have your classes on the south campus. But the south campus is pretty big all by itself and it's not always easy to know where one is and where one has to go. We provide you a map with the most import places to go at the right. In addition here are two more links, one as a PDF-Document and one a link to an interactive campus map:
And if all else fails, don't hesitate to ask another student. Everyone started out at some point and probably got lost at least once.
